In a historic appearance, Prince Harry provided testimony in court against Mirror Group Newspapers (MGN), the company that publishes the Daily Mirror, Sunday Mirror, and Sunday People.

In his lawsuit, the 38-year-old prince claims that these outlets’ writers participated in unethical behavior, including phone hacking, information gathering through deceit, and the hiring of investigators from private firms for unethical purposes.

The appearance of royal Harry, originally slated for June 5 but moved to June 6, will be the first time a royal has spoken in court in 130 years, according to The Independent. Prince Harry’s attorney, David Sherborne, stressed during the hearings how the MGN stories had damaged the prince’s relationship with his brother, the Prince of Wales since they created a lack of trust.

The Duke of Sussex is committed to demonstrating that the Mirror periodicals participated in unethical acts, including phone hacking, dishonest business practices, and the use of private investigators, from 1996 to 2010.

The plaintiff in the lawsuit, MGN, maintains that some of the claimants have launched legal action outside of the allowed time limit and rejected or have not acknowledged the claims made against them. The publisher’s legal counsel will cross-examine the Duke of Sussex today, a pivotal development in this well-known trial.

The late Princess Diana’s voicemail conversations were allegedly accessed by Mirror journalists while Piers Morgan served as editor, according to the opening statements made by Prince Harry’s attorney, David Sherborne.

According to Sky News, Sherborne stressed that this incursion had led to distrust between Prince Harry and Prince William. Additionally, he emphasized how intrusive the coverage of Prince Harry’s association with his ex-girlfriend Chelsy Davy was, which he claimed was motivated by illegal acts.

Sherborne said that during Prince Harry’s life, there was never a break from such incursions and that he was not shielded from this illegal information collecting by any boundaries or protections. The court will meticulously examine the facts and arguments presented by both sides as the case progresses in an effort to throw light on the scope of any illegal actions and their effects on the daily lives of the people concerned.
