Identification of the bus passengers: A Difficult Assignment for The Police

Seven people escaped the incident while up to 26 bus passengers were burned to death. The survivors got out of the bus by smashing the windows, according to the police, who also noted that it is difficult to identify the victims because of the terrible burns the retrieved bodies had sustained.

SP Buldhana said that it looks like a tyre burst, causing the bus to crash into an electric pole, strike a divider and catch fire, according to Sunil Kadasne.

Eyewitnesses said that the bus flipped over and landed on its left side, with the door buried and no way out. “The passengers were tragically confined inside. We witnessed them perish, but were unable to intervene since the car was on fire,” stated Advocate Sandeep, who arrived on the scene to rescue the victims. He also stated that the bus caught fire because either the fuel tank or the fuel supply pipe from the tank to the engine had ruptured.

The only people who were able to escape were those who were able to smash the glass windows with their hands, according to survivors. “Everything occurred in a split second. Before we realized what was happening, the driver lost control, the vehicle flipped over, and it started to catch fire. Everyone was yelling for aid at the top of their voices, but the passing cars showed little interest in stopping to save us. One of us broke one of the windows and got out,” a victim recounted.
