The protesting wrestlers have been instructed to speak with the government about their requests, and Madan Lal, a member of the 1983 World Cup-winning squad, has expressed hope that the Sports Minister would pay attention to them and resolve their issues. A day after the 1983 World Cup-winning team issued a letter in support of the protesting wrestlers, Madan Lal offers his counsel.

The former Indian all-rounder said that the case should now be turned over to the judiciary since an FIR has already been filed and the Police are already initiating action. We support the wrestlers who are protesting, he added, but I’d like to add that the courts should step in after a police report has been filed and action has been taken by the police.

“What I find funny is that this is a protest of wrestlers, but political parties are entering it,” said the World Cup-winning team member from 1983 who was concerned that the protest would turn into a political problem. I would rather that the wrestlers handle this matter with the government on their own. It becomes a political matter whenever political parties get involved.

The 1983 World Cup-winning team, which also features Kapil Dev, Ravi Shastri, and Sunil Gavaskar, issued a letter on Friday in support of the wrestlers who are protesting. “We are horrified and disturbed,” they declared in response to the unsightly scenes of our champion wrestlers being mistreated. Additionally, we are really concerned that they could consider dumping their well-earned medals into the Ganga.

“Those medals are not just theirs, but also the nation’s pride and joy. Years of labor, sacrifice, tenacity, and dedication were necessary. We firmly suggest abstaining from making a snap decision in this instance, and we sincerely hope that their complaints will be heard and promptly taken care of. It continued, “Let the law of the land govern.”

All of the players on the 1983 World Cup-winning team—Sunil Gavaskar, Mohinder Amarnath, K Srikanth, Syed Kirmani, Yashpal Sharma, Madan Lal, Balwinder Singh Sandhu, Sandeep Patil, Kirti Azad, and Roger Binny—were Indians.
