Several former international students have started a protest in Canada amid escalating deportation threats. This week saw the start of an ongoing protest in the Greater Toronto Area that will go on until the deportation process is halted. Most of these students had come to Canada between 2017 and 2019 to pursue higher education. They then learned that the entrance offer letters they had received—which served as the foundation for their visas and study permits—were “fake.”

More than 700 Indian students are currently on the verge of leaving Canada. The Canadian Border Security Agency had presented them with deportation notices earlier this year. When these students filed for permanent residency in Canada and their paperwork was checked, the scam was first discovered.

According to a story in the Hindustan Times, the former pupils have congregated at a temporary location on Mississauga’s Airport Road. As the demonstration got underway on Monday, they built a makeshift shelter nearby. According to reports, Lovepreet Singh’s deportation order was what started the unrest. The student, who is from the Punjabi city of Mohali, has been told to depart the country by June 13.

Inder Singh, another demonstrator, told the media, “We will keep demonstrating until Lovepreet’s deportation on June 13 is canceled and a solution is found to our problems.

Additionally, on Friday, a sizable protest march is being organized by the former pupils in front of the nearby CBSA headquarters.
