Delhi High Court Refuses Sukesh Chandrashekhar's Wife’s Bail In A 200 Crore Extortion Case

On Tuesday, the Delhi High Court rejected Leena Maria Paulose’s application for bail in connection with a Rs 200 crore extortion case that the Economic Offense Wing (EOW) of the Delhi Police had filed. Leena is the wife of conman Sukesh Chandrasekhar.

According to the news agency ANI, the Delhi High Court also denied the bail requests of the two defendants in the same case, Kamlesh Kothari and B. Mohan Raj.

In the matter of allegedly defrauding Aditi Singh, the wife of the previous promoter of Ranbaxy, Shivinder Singh, of Rs. 200 crore through extortion, Sukesh Chandrasekhar, Leena Maria Paulose, and others are now being held in judicial prison since last year.

All three bail requests submitted in the case were denied by Justice Dinesh Kumar Sharma on Tuesday in Delhi High Court.

According to the police, B. Mohan Raj, a lawyer by profession who has long represented Chandrashekhar in his lawsuits and is reportedly implicated in their crime, and Kothari, a real estate agent who assisted the couple in purchasing a home in Chennai, are both accused of being involved in their wrongdoing.

On May 23, Delhi Police submitted two Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) findings to Patiala House Court as part of the RsOffenses 200 crore extortion case. One of the reports concerns Sukesh Chandrasekhar’s cell phone.

The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Delhi Police filed a FIR against Sukesh Chandrasekhar, accusing him of defrauding and extorting Aditi Singh, the wife of former Religare Enterprises promoter Shivinder Mohan Singh. He was detained in October 2019 in connection with an alleged misappropriation of funds at Religare Finvest Ltd.

According to ANI, Chandrasekhar and his accomplices promised Aditi they would secure bail for her husband but instead collected money from her.

While he was being held in Rohini prison, Chandrasekhar allegedly convinced Aditi to provide money by pretending to be a federal government official via a hoax call and promising to handle bail for her husband.

For their suspected involvement in the duping case, Chandrasekhar and his actress wife, Leena Maria Paul, were both detained by the Delhi Police in September of last year.
