UK to Enhance Science and Innovation Ties with India

A deal for cooperation in science and innovation was signed on Wednesday by the UK and India.

Following their meeting, UK Science Minister George Freeman and Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science and Technology Jitendra Singh signed the agreement between their two countries.

“The UK and India are dependable allies connected by the special living bridge that closely ties our nations and people together. We are strengthening our collaboration in science and technology, bringing fresh innovations to both of our countries, Lord Ahmad said, building on the 2030 Roadmap for India-UK future relations.

The trip coincides with negotiations between India and the UK on a Free Trade Agreement (FTA), which is anticipated to expand their current trade relationship to the tune of GBP 36 billion by 2022. On June 5, New Delhi will host the start of the tenth round of FTA negotiations.

Notably, Lord Ahmad’s trip to Rajasthan, which will highlight the region’s rich cultural history, will mark his first visit to Jodhpur, the city where his mother was born.

Topics to be addressed

He will discuss gender equality, education, and sustainability with up-and-coming women leaders while touring the renowned Mehrangarh Fort.

Lord Ahmad will introduce the “English Skills for Youth” program in New Delhi, which was created in collaboration with Microsoft India and the British Council to increase employment opportunities for young people in India, particularly young women.

According to PTI, he will also reveal the winners of the UK-India Health-Tech Boot Camp, which supports health-tech innovations from India.

UK to Enhance Science  with India

The UK and India have a valuable partnership, according to Christina Scott, the acting British High Commissioner to India. We are advancing and speeding up our cooperation in the areas of health, the environment, trade, education, science and technology, and defense as we implement the UK-India Roadmap 2030.

“With India serving as the G20’s presidency, there is a chance for the UK and India to collaborate on developing and implementing solutions to global problems.”

Lord Ahmad will highlight technological advancements during his final days in Hyderabad by visiting T-Hub and T-Works, the world’s largest innovation campus’s technology start-up incubator and prototyping facility, as well as a space launch.

He will also pay a visit to the National Institute of Animal Biotechnology, where he will speak with Indian Chevening alumni about future opportunities for scientific and technological cooperation.
