Rishi Sunak’s tenure as prime minister of the United Kingdom began on 25 October 2022 when he accepted an invitation from King Charles III to form a government, succeeding Liz Truss. He is the first British Asian and Hindu to hold the office of prime minister. This is also the first government to be formed under King Charles III. Sunak assumed office amid the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the cost of living crisis, which began during his former position as chancellor of the exchequer under Boris Johnson. His premiership has been dominated by the cost of living crisis and industrial disputes.

This time, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunka and his wife Akshata Murty’s riches have suffered significantly. The extremely wealthy couple has lost GBP 201 million (about Rs. 2072 crore) during the last 12 months. Due to a decline in Infosys stock, the power couple, who are related to Indian business mogul Narayana Murthy and philanthropist Sudha Murty, has lost billions of dollars in fortune.

Infosys was founded by Narayana Murthy, whose daughter Akshata and son-in-law Sunak. The most valuable asset owned by the rich couple has long been their stake in Infosys.
The Sunday Times Rich List placed UK Prime Minister Sunak and his wife Murty in the 222nd spot the previous year. However, this wealthy couple’s ranking has fallen to 227 this year as a result of the 20% decline in Infosys shares over the last year.

Sunak and Murty debuted on The Sunday Times Rich List the previous year. Their shareholding had a value of around GBP 690 million at the time. The couple’s fortune fell to GBP 529 million this year, which they mostly blame on the IT company Infosys.

Notably, Sunak is the richest person to ever occupy 10 Downing Street, and because of this, opposition politicians frequently criticize him for being disconnected from the everyday people at a time when the cost of living problem is making many Britons poorer.

He is entitled to an annual salary of roughly 165,000 pounds ($208,246) as the prime minister of Great Britain. His fortune was estimated by the Rich List to be about 730 million pounds in 2017, before declining to 529 million in 2023.
