PM Modi Praises India And France's Strategic Alliance Prior To His Two-Day Visit

PM Modi emphasized that India and France’s strategic alliance strives to create a free, open, inclusive, secure, and stable Indo Pacific region and said that the two countries also want to assist other nations in the region.

Prior to his two-day official visit to France, which took place on July 13 and 14, the PM made this statement to the French publication “Les Echos.”

In response to a question on India and France’s strategic alliance, PM Modi stated that the alliance is “influencing the course of the Indo-Pacific region” because the two countries are the two largest resident powers in the Indian Ocean.

Purpose of India and France’s strategic alliance

“Our alliance seeks to build an Indo-Pacific region that is free, open, inclusive, safe, and stable by cooperating with other nations in the area who share our vision. From the seafloor to space, there is a significant component of defense and security.” According to the English version of the interview, he told the French newspaper that the initiative also aims to support other nations in the area and enhance regional institutions for security cooperation and norm formation.

In addition, PM Modi stated that India and France’s strategic alliance is made to meet the security needs of other nations in addition to strengthening India’s defense industrial base and joint operational capabilities.

“It includes every project related to sustainability, connection, human development, and the economy. These will encourage other nations to join in on common efforts for prosperity and peace. Great opportunities for regional cooperation are made possible by this alliance. Beyond the Indian Ocean, we will also progressively coordinate and work together in the Pacific. The EU, which has its own Indo Pacific policy, will be a part of our alliance as well. We already have a connectivity partnership with the EU,” said PM Modi.

PM Modi thanked Emanuel Macron for the invitation and said that New Delhi and Paris have similar worldviews. As a consequence, the relationship between the two countries is growing in many spheres, including the economy, society, culture, and people-to-people exchanges.

Economic, social, cultural, and people-to-people interactions between the two nations are all expanding as a result of our collaboration. Since 2014, our commerce has almost doubled. Two Indian aviation carriers have ordered more than 750 aircraft from Airbus this year.

To achieve the goal of using digital public infrastructure for the benefit of the public, both nations are collaborating more closely. Clean energy, such as solar, wind, and clean hydrogen, is very collaborative, according to PM Modi.

He also mentioned the several steps French President Macron has taken to strengthen ties between France and India.

The International Solar Alliance was jointly established by France and India. These two countries are also collaborating on projects related to biodiversity, the abolition of single-use plastics, the construction of disaster-resistant infrastructure, and the preservation of ocean resources. PM Modi emphasized the closer cooperation and coordination between these two countries in international forums.

India and France’s strategic alliance celebrates its 25th anniversary this year, and PM Modi’s visit will offer the chance to map out the partnership’s future trajectory in a variety of areas, including strategic, cultural, scientific, academic, and economic collaboration.

On July 13 and 14, PM Modi will visit France and meet with President Emmanuel Macron in a formal setting. In commemoration of the Prime Minister, Macron will host a State Banquet and a private supper.

PM Modi will also meet with top CEOs from both countries as well as members of the Indian diaspora during his visit.
