Following its introduction in various nations, Meta on Wednesday (June 7) launched its “Meta Verified” service in India. The decision to extend the test to India, according to the business, was made in light of encouraging findings from early testing conducted throughout the globe. Pre-existing certified badges will continue to be recognized.

With features including impersonation prevention, federal ID-based verification of profiles, and accessibility to account assistance, Meta Verified is a package of subscriptions that enables authentication for Instagram and Facebook accounts. In India, the service costs INR 699 per month for users of iOS and Android (covering Facebook as well as Instagram profiles), and INR 599 per month for Facebook users alone on the web and mobile platforms.

Meta launched Meta Verified in India after running a test run in Australia and New Zealand and making improvements depending on the results. Along with Brazil, the program has now been made available in the UK and Canada.

The action is a part of Meta’s plan to increase accessibility to the authentication badge and create a stable income stream. India offers a profitable chance for the corporation to utilise this service because of its sizable customer base.

Users must fulfill a number of eligibility requirements, such as being at least 18 years old and possessing a minimum posting history, in order to access Meta Verified. Users will also need to present an identification card that exactly matches the name and photo on their profile, and some candidates might need to upload a selfie video for validation. After account authentication, Meta asserts that it continuously monitors its various platforms for account impersonation.

The service will progressively be made accessible to all qualified Indian consumers over the next weeks, even though the deployment started on June 7. To use the new INR 599 service, those who are interested must sign up for a waitlist. It should be noted that companies cannot yet qualify for Meta Verified.

Following Twitter’s recent launching of its Twitter Blue application in India, with a price tag of INR 900, Meta has also introduced the subscription model. One of the greatest markets for these networks, with 467 million members as of January 2023, is the quickly expanding Indian social media sector, which both businesses hope to penetrate.

After purchasing the network for $44 billion, owner Elon Musk is trying to increase its subscription business via Twitter Blue, which costs $11 per month for iOS and Android users.
