India To Use 20% Ethanol-Blended Petrol Across The Board By 2025: PM Modi

The deployment of 20% ethanol-blended petrol in India has started this year, according to PM Modi, who made the announcement on Saturday. The goal for the country is to have it available nationwide by 2025.

PM Modi said in his remarks at the G20 Energy Ministerial meeting in Goa, “We must find ways to bridge technology gaps, promote energy security, and work on diversifying supply chains.”

In the past nine years, the central government has linked more than 190 million families to LPG while also accomplishing the remarkable feat of supplying power to every hamlet.

“Our goal is to promote egalitarian, resilient, inclusive, and sustainable energy for everyone. We started a little movement in 2015 by introducing a plan for the use of LED lights. This eventually grew into the world’s largest LED distribution program, saving us more than 45 billion units of energy annually,” the Prime Minister added.

He added that, despite being the most populous country in the world, India is making enormous efforts in green growth and energy transformation while moving slowly on its climate change promises.

“Nine years earlier than expected, we met our non-fossil installed electric capacity target. Now that we have a greater goal, we hope to install 50% of non-fossil energy by 2030.” According to Prime Minister Modi, India is a world leader in solar and wind energy.

By 2025, the entire nation will have specialized fuel stations selling E20 gasoline, according to Union Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri. He expressed confidence in the quicker rollout of such fuel stations earlier this month. E20 gasoline is a mixture of 20% ethanol-blended gasoline.

Puri said in a video message to the AGM of the industry lobby IMC Chamber that the first E20 store was opened on February 8 of this year, ahead of the intended April debut. As of today, the number of E20 outlets has surpassed 600, and they will cover the entire country by 2025.

According to the ministry, the percentage of ethanol in gasoline increased from 1.53 percent in 2013–14 to above 11.5 percent as of March 2023. From 38 crore liters in 2013–14 to 433.6 crore liters in 2021–22, 20% ethanol-blended gasoline has grown in volume.
