New Delhi Television Ltd is an Indian news channel and digital news corporation. On 17th May, the board of directors of NDTV held a meeting and proposed the idea of launching the channel in nine vernacular languages. The purpose is to recover the loss that the channel faced last year.

The conglomerate is India’s top media houses. It was formed in 1988 by Prannoy Roy and Radhika Roy. It is now a reputed news station that provides investigative coverage of both national and international events.

In the last quarter of the year 2022, NDTV registered a huge decline in quarterly profit that was down by 97.5% compared to the first quarter of the year. From ₹24.16 crores to a mere 59 lakhs change within a year. The focus was also on the bigger picture, the company’s annual revenue was down by 35.5% in the last year compared to 2021, from ₹104 crore to ₹67 crore.

The RRPR holding has hindered NDTV’s growth

NDTV has shifted its focus on reducing the borrowings from ₹9 crores in the last quarter to ₹3 crores to aid in staying debt free and feel no pressure. Just one day before the new 2023 new year, on 30th December, AMG Networks Ltd indirectly acquired a 27.26% stake in NDTV through its RRPR Holding Private Ltd, which is the subsidiary of AMNL. This gave a total of 64.71% stakes in the company to AMNL, meaning it has a major controlling interest in the media company.

Adani’s ownership over NDTV is a major concern to focus on by BOD, considering the current image of Gautam Adani

After acquiring major stakes in NDTV through AMNL and Vishwapradhan Commercial, the owner of Adani Group, Gautam Adani expressed pride in being a part of the chain. The focus of a businessman is always a profit and such results upset everyone. Adani’s luck is not on his side, from his own conglomerate to his owning, every company is facing loss or decline in profit. The controversy that followed after Gautam Adani became a major holder of NDTV might be the reason for the fall of NDTV.

NDTV also shifted its focus on one-way expenses that were estimated to cause a loss of over ₹4.8 crores to the company. The aim of the media house is to launch itself in nine vernacular channels with the vision to reach an even wider audience and regain its trustworthiness and credibility. The ultimate fate lies in the hand of the viewers only, the focus of the BOD will be to uplift the current situation and perception in the minds of people about NDTV.
