France Will Soon Begin Adopting India's UPI Payment System

Due to an agreement between India and France, Indian visitors to France will now be able to pay in rupees. Starting at the Eiffel Tower, the initiative will proceed. The action is anticipated to increase two-way trade and tourism between the two nations.

According to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s announcement on Thursday, India and France have decided to use the recognizable Eiffel Tower as the starting point for their UPI payment system. He claimed that from this point forward, Indian visitors to France will be allowed to pay in rupees.

“Be it India’s UPI or other digital platforms, they have brought a huge social transformation in the country,” Prime Minister Modi said in a speech to the Indian community at La Seine Musicale in Paris. “I am happy that India and France are also working together in this direction.”

“UPI payment will be used in France; India and France have agreed. When we reach a consensus, I’ll depart. However, it is your responsibility to proceed. Friends, its launch will take place from the Eiffel Tower in the future, which means that visitors from India will now be able to pay using UPI payment at the Eiffel Tower,” according to the Prime Minister, who was quoted by ANI.

The declaration is viewed as a significant advancement for India and France’s bilateral trade and tourism. The two nations have been collaborating on archaeological missions for a while, according to PM Modi.

“Very few people are aware that France and India have been collaborating on archaeological missions for a while. It now extends to Ladakh from Chandigarh. Another industry that improves relations between India and France is digital infrastructure, according to PM Modi.

He emphasized the people-to-people ties between France and India, calling them the “strongest foundation” of their cooperation, according to ANI.

The difficulties of the twenty-first century are being met by both France and India. Thus, at this crucial time, the strategic alliance between our countries has become even more important, he continued.

A formal greeting was given to the Prime Minister when he arrived in Paris on Thursday on a two-day official visit. Elisabeth Borne, the French prime minister, met him at the airport.

India’s mobile-based payment system, known as the Unified Payments Interface (UPI), enables users to send payments at any time using a virtual payment address they generate themselves.

An agreement enabling users in either nation to conduct cross-border transactions was inked earlier this year between UPI and Singapore’s “PayNow.”
