Bhagwant Mann raised the problem of the state’s electricity needs due to the impending paddy season in his letter to the Union electricity Minister.
According to the Chief Minister, the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) is always keeping an eye on the power availability on the PUShP site in order to give an uninterrupted supply of electricity to the state’s farmers.
The High Price Day Ahead Market and Surplus Power Portal (PUShP) was established by the Central Government as a project to guarantee higher power supply during the period of highest demand.
The Central Government developed the High Price Day Ahead Market and Surplus Power Portal (PUShP) as an initiative to provide more power availability during the time of peak demand.
CM Mann stated that the state must have a definitive allotment of Around The Clock (RTC) power of 1000 MW for the time frame from June 15 to October 15 since the demand for energy cannot be consistently satisfied through the collective transaction section of the power exchange.
According to him, the latest Indian Meteorological Department estimate of poor rainfall during the monsoon in North-Western India, particularly Punjab, has further forced the need for extra electricity.
Further, CM Mann stated that in order to secure the nation’s food security, paddy crop farming must be done in a seamless and hassle-free way.
“The Chief Minister persuaded RK Singh to award more firm electricity from Central Sector Generating Stations as a result. He mentioned that Punjab’s state thermal plants receive a consistent supply of coal from the Pachhwara (Central) Coal Mine, the statement continued.
However, according to Bhagwant Mann, the state’s entire generation capacity is just approximately 6500 MW, but the peak demand during the rice season is predicted to reach 15,500 MW.
Reasons behind requesting additional power by Punjab CM
The CM stated that central assistance is essential for satisfying the highest demand for electricity during the next paddy/summer season.
The statement continued, “Flagging another concern, he stated that the Ministry of Power has given guidelines concerning the enactment of Section 1 of the 2003 electricity act to imported coal-based facilities and that the same is valid until June 15, 2023.
Due to Punjab’s 475 MW stake in CGPL, Mundra, and the impending summer season, according to CM Mann, these directives are significant.
The CM stated that because June 10th marks the start of Punjab’s peak demand and paddy season, the state will be in desperate need of reliable RTC electricity.

In order to meet the electricity needs of all societal segments, he consequently asked the Union electricity Minister to prolong these directives until October 15th, according to the statement.
According to CM Mann, the state’s farmers have always been crucial to the nation’s ability to produce its own food, thus the federal government must ensure that the state receives regular and increased power supplies. This will help farmers.
