All iPhone users now have access to iOS 16.6 as well as comparable updates for other devices thanks to Apple. According to the release notes, the most recent software version includes “critical bug fixes and security updates.”

Today marks the launch of the latest software updates for all users.

The same release notes apply to the upgrades for macOS 13.5 and the following operating systems: iPadOS 16.6, tvOS 16.6, watchOS 9.6, and iPadOS 16.6. The HomePod update also includes “performance and stability improvements.”

Since May, iOS 16.6 has been in the development and public beta stages. Apple only recently made the first release candidate available.

This particular update for iOS 16 is anticipated to be one of the last before turning entirely to security upgrades and doesn’t add any new user-facing features. The addition of Hebrew language compatibility for Apple TV and HomePod is an exception, though.

iOS 15 has been updated to version 15.7.X and is still an option for customers who want to put off upgrading to iOS 16.

A step-by-step tutorial for updating your iPhone to iOS 16.6 is provided below:

Go to Settings > General > Software Update after unlocking your phone.

If iOS 16.6 is available for your device, it will be displayed below.

Select “Download” then “Install.”

Then, complete the update by adhering to the on-screen instructions.

Your iPhone will restart itself immediately after the update is complete, and iOS 16.6 will be installed.

Looking ahead, more features will be included in iOS 17, which is due out in September. It won’t support the iPhone X, iPhone 8, or iPhone 8 Plus, either.

As a result, iOS 16 is the last update for those particular devices. But for years to come, Apple will keep releasing security patches for older iOS versions running on supported devices.
