President Joe Biden's Science Adviser Pushes For Cooperation With India On Artificial Intelligence

Arati Prabhakar, the science advisor to Vice President Biden, stated that the US and nations like India need to work together to influence the development of artificial intelligence. To stop the abuse of AI, the US government had already solicited the aid of major IT companies.

Arati Prabhakar, President Joe Biden’s science advisor, stated on Friday that the United States and other like-minded nations, including India, must collaborate to influence the development of artificial intelligence.

This happened when the US government enlisted the help of numerous tech behemoths like Google and Microsoft to make sure it was being used responsibly and for the common good.

Indian-American Prabhakar told PTI, “The work we are doing includes working with companies to hold them accountable, and there’s some important progress on that today.”

The President is considering an executive order that, in her words, “we think can really boost our ability to deal with artificial intelligence’s harms and also start using it for good.” In addition, she said, “we’re working on executive actions that we can take within existing law.”

That’s what we can do from the executive branch, she continued. As soon as Congress starts introducing legislation, we’ll keep working with them on bipartisan legislation. The work we undertake globally with our international partners and allies, especially with India, is crucial and underpins all of this.

When President Joe Biden and Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited here last month, Arati Prabhakar claimed that artificial intelligence was one of the key topics of conversation.

“And the reason why is that this technology is a global one. It’s all over. We want to ensure that like-minded nations collaborate to create the future of AI since everyone is involved and it will significantly touch everyone’s lives,” she told PTI.

She recalled that when he spoke to Congress in the US, Prime Minister Modi told a hilarious joke. “He (PM Modi) said he believed artificial intelligence stood for America and India, which is another war of interpretation,” the report continued.

On Friday, Joe Biden disclosed voluntary agreements the administration has reached with seven major AI firms, including Google, Microsoft, Amazon, Meta, and some of the smaller firms.

Holding these firms accountable has allowed us to take such a crucial step forward because it’s the first time the industry has begun to unite and accept accountability, she continued.

She further claimed that artificial intelligence is the most potent technological advancement of our time and noted that the president has made it plain how it will be employed.

The top American scientific official added, “That’s why I think it is so vital for like-minded countries, for democratic countries, to get together and make sure that we’re working together to use artificial intelligence in ways that embody our values.”
