Flying balloons, thought to be Chinese surveillance balloons, were reportedly sighted over Asia months after being discovered and shot down over the US east coast, according to a BBC investigation.

A couple more of these airships have been seen recently above Japan and Taiwan, according to the British media outlet, BBC, which reported on Monday. This comes after months of the shooting down of Chinese surveillance balloons off the coast of the US.

The BBC stated that the Chinese surveillance balloons program is active in Asia. It is based on the pieces of evidence gathered by an artificial intelligence firm.

Under its examination of vast amounts of data collected by satellites, the BBC discovered several photographs of such balloons passing around East Asia. A company that specializes in artificial intelligence, Synthetic, helped with the analysis.

Corey Jaskolski, the founder of Synthetic, discovered proof of one balloon passing northern Japan in early September 2021. According to the BBC, these pictures have never been released before.

Jaskolski claims that these balloons were sent into space from south Mongolia, deep within China. China has not yet released an official comment answering the information provided by the BBC.

US-China ties are strained as a result of Chinese surveillance balloons being shot down.

The US reacted angrily when a balloon that was purported to be a Chinese spy appeared over its airspace and was promptly shot down. China, on the other hand, disagreed with the US assertions that the item was a spy for the nation and criticized the US for its conduct. The incident caused the US Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s early-February trip to China to be postponed.

The balloon that was spotted over US airspace, according to China, was a civilian airship. The airship was used to do scientific studies.

How were Chinese surveillance balloons found above Asia?

According to the BBC’s research, China released a balloon above Taipei, the capital of Taiwan, in September 2021.

Two images that appeared to show a balloon over Taiwan’s capital, Taipei, in late September 2021 were discovered by BBC. They were taken by Taiwan’s meteorological agency.

Later, satellite images were cross-referenced with the picture by the AI company Jaskolski. According to Jaskolski, “We located the balloon off the coast of Taiwan within 90 seconds.”

Additionally, he drew a drawing of what he imagined a balloon might look like from the air. The balloon’s course and last location were then tracked using AI software.

He located the balloons by using the satellite pictures given by Planet Labs, Corey, and fed all the data into his program, RAIC.

The majority of surveillance balloons are enormous, around the size of several buses. They are equipped with a lot of sophisticated gear that allows them to gather a lot of information about the targets below.
